What is Qi Gong?
"Qi" is the Chinese word for "life force energy", or the animating power that moves through all living things. When we are in good health, the Qi in our body flows smoothly like a clear stream, rather than being blocked, polluted or stagnant.
"Gong" means "work" or "benefits acquired through perseverance and practice".
Thus Qi Gong means working with life force energy to improve the health and harmony of body and mind.
What does Qi Gong involve?
Qi Gong is a holistic system of self-healing exercises which include breathing techniques, energy activating exercises, gentle flowing movements, healing postures and visualisation.
Through these methods, Qi is accumulated and stored in the body, like filling a reservoir.
Practising Qi Gong enhances the internal reserves of energy & helps to nurture wellness.
What's a Qi Gong session like?
In our practice, we tend to start with warm up and stretching exercises to activate the Qi and release any energy that is stuck within the body. Then we move into some gentle flowing movements designed to build and circulate healthy Qi.
We often finish with a soothing meditation to further calm the mind and embed the energetic benefits we have cultivated.
Qi Gong is suitable for all ages and abilities. Whilst usually done in a standing position, it can also be done seated.
